Monroe High School Track & Field boasts a long standing tradition of academic and athletic excellence. We’ve gotten used to success, but understand that it only comes through hard work. We seek self-motivated student-athletes; those with the will to be the best that they can be in the classroom, on the track and in the field. We are grateful for your interest in our program and excited to provide an opportunity for continued excellence.
Indoor Track is our winter conditioning program for the MHS Track & Field Team. We encourage all varsity level athletes who are not playing a winter sport to participate. It is a voluntary commitment. Once you have committed to the program, we expect you to follow our guidelines and report with regularity.
Before you may begin conditioning with the MHS TRACK & FIELD TEAM, you must have a current physical exam on file with the MHS Athletic Department.
Please understand that Indoor Track is not an official MHS sport. It is a winter conditioning opportunity afforded to MHS Track & Field athletes and is not directly connected with the Michigan Indoor Track Series. Athletes participating must adhere to following guidelines.
  • Arrive promptly at 2:30 ready to begin.
  • Attend at least 3 sessions per week.
  • Use the weight room, pool, equipment and plyometric boxes only under direct coach supervision.
  • Stay in upper A and C wings during steady runs and workouts.
  • Represent the program with integrity (No swearing, yelling, horse play, spitting or any other inappropriate behaviors while in the hallways, pool / natatorium and / or weight room)
The Michigan Indoor Track Series is a separate entity from the Monroe High School Indoor Track program. The MHSAA prevents me from COACHING more than 3 athletes at a time during the off-season. The MHS Track & Field Coaching staff may provide general conditioning opportunities to the entire roster.

What is MITS?
MITS is a group of volunteers whose main purpose is to host an Indoor State Championship for track and field and to promote the sport here in Michigan. It is for Track Clubs so please remember that you may not compete in high school issued uniforms, use school transportation, pay with school issued checks, and high school coaches may not transport or work with more than four (4) athletes at a time. Please adhere to these rules or risk MHSAA sanctions to your school.
Who can compete at MITS events?
Technically, anyone can compete. However, we strive to keep these meets for high school and middle school aged athletes. ONLY high school and middle school aged athletes can compete at the state meet. Also, out of state and out of country athletes can compete at the MITS qualifying events, however, only Michigan residents can compete at the State meet.
How do I compete at a MITS event?
Show up at the venue, pay the entry fee at the door, and you can compete in up to four (4) events. Keep in mind that each venue may have different rules and regulations. Please adhere to all guidelines set by the venue.
Are spikes allowed at MITS meets?
Most venues allow you to wear spikes. However, Albion and Macomb do not. You may wear your shoes without the spikes in them.
How do I compete at the State Meet?
You have to qualify first. You can qualify for the State Meet by hitting the standard at ANY of the MITS meets listed on the MITS website. There are many events throughout the winter all over the state. You may ONLY qualify at a MITS meet. Competing out of state or at a meet that is not listed on the MITS website will not qualify you for the state meet.
How do you come up with the qualifying standards?
We use previous results to come up with acceptable qualifying standards. On occasion we may need to relax the standards for certain events to ensure we have a complete field of competitors at the State Meet. However, we will never make the standard more difficult once it has been set. The only way to ensure qualifying is to hit the standard we originally post.
Once I qualify, what do I have to do?
Once you hit the qualifying standard your name will show up on the list of qualifiers. Once it does, go to the website and print out the registration form. There are different forms for individuals and relays. Fill out the forms completely and pay your registration fee. NO PERSONAL CHECKS. Pay close attention to deadlines and late fees. They will be accessed if your registration is not received by the deadline.
How many events can I run at the state meet?
You can only compete in one (1) individual running event. However you may compete on as many relays as you qualify for and as many field events as you qualify for in addition to the 1 individual running event up to four (4) total events.
Do I need a uniform?
You can run in whatever you like but NOT SCHOOL ISSUED UNIFORMS. Some venues and the State Meet require that relay teams have matching tops. White t-shirts are not acceptable matching tops.
What if my club qualifies multiple relay teams in the same event?
Your club may ONLY enter 1 relay team per club name. For example, Pulaski Track Club may only have one (1) 4x200 team entered at the state meet. They can also have a 4x400 and a 4x800. But they may only have 1 of each relay.
Why is my name (or performance) wrong on the list?
MITS publishes the information we get from the venues. Each venue hosts the meet and compiles the results in a way that works best for them. We are at the mercy of their accuracy. If there is a discrepancy with your performance, contact us and we will do our best to fix it.
