Welcome

Welcome to the 2016 Monroe High Trojan Track & Field Season.  We've had two good weeks of team conditioning and a great winter with a small portion of our team.  We face a few struggles as we  start, but do so with enthusiasm.

The roster size looks good, but we will continue to reach out to student-athletes in the building.  When I approach an MHS student to talk to him about Trojan Track & Field, I do so with confidence.  I know that our program is a good place for MHS student-athletes.  Our coaches are knowledgeable and passionate, or history and tradition are second to none, and our recent results are the best of any boys sport at MHS.  We make champions.

This season marks my 16th year as a track coach at MHS and my 15th as a head coach.  As a Trojan Track & Field alumnus, this sport and program are important to me.  We develop champions, but more importantly, we develop young men.  As we enter the season, we do so with a focus on team, trust, love and excellence.  Let's be the team we're destined to be and the leaders our school and community need.

To paraphrase the great Bill Bowerman, "Men of Monroe, I invite you to become students of your events. Running, jumping, and throwing, one might say, are basically absurd past-times upon which to be exhausting ourselves. But if you can find meaning, in the kind of running, jumping, and throwing you have to do to stay on this team, chances are you will be able to find meaning in another absurd past-time: life.”

Boys Track & Field - 2016 - Sign Up Meeting

    Update - 3/2/16

Due to today's school cancellation, our previously scheduled sign up meeting will take place tomorrow, Thursday, 3/3/16.

Please change for conditioning and meet in Lecture Room 1 at 2:30.

    Welcome!!!

2015 was a season to remember.  Finishing 2nd in the SEC, 2nd in the Region, 4th at MITCA Team States, and 3rd in the State, it brought our best finish in recent history.

It also brought tragedy. Losing Sean Brady profoundly changed our team.  I think of Sean and his family daily.  That will never go away, but as I've come to realize, as seasons pass, fewer and fewer of our student-athletes will remember Sean.  Still, his legacy will live on.  Sean loved his teammates and we will continue to build our program around those with the same sense of team.

We finished last season as a TEAM. Our trip to the MITCA Team State Championship is quite possibly my favorite memory as a coach.  Don't get me wrong, I love competing well and I'm proud of our competitive efforts from the 2015 season, but it was coming together and taking care of one another that was paramount.

In the coming season, as always, we seek to increase our roster size, improve our academic & athletic performance, and establish a culture of sportsmanship with an emphasis on team.

As we move toward the 2016 season, ask yourself the following questions:

Does the MHS Trojan Track & Field matter to me?
Do I care about my teammates?
    Can I commit to excellence?
    Can my coaches trust me?

Before you show up this season, be sure you can answer "yes" to all of the above.

Although we graduated some of our top leaders and biggest point scorers, I look forward to continuing what we started last season.  TEAM FAMILY TROJANS
