Fundraiser Scheduled for Saturday, May 21

An awesome fund raising opportunity fell into our lap this week, but I'll need a lot of help to pull it off. On Saturday, May 21 (the day after the Regional), we've been asked to help with Tenneco's Family Day. We need 27 (including 8 adults) to earn $1250 / 54 (16 adults) to earn $2500!!!

During set up, our group will help unload trucks & set up equipment. During the event, 1/2 of our group will run games, inflatables, activities & the other half will make & serve concession and food items. After the event ends, all of the equipment will need to be packed up & loaded into the trucks.

I'm sending information home today with the boys and cross country girls.  Please consider volunteering for this important event.

You may volunteer by completing this google form or by contacting Paula Dawn at Pauladawn@sbcglobal.net

Monroe High School Track and Field will volunteer at the Tenneco Family Day event
On Saturday, May 21, 2016
At Tenneco Monroe, 1 International Drive, Monroe, MI 48161
And we will earn a donation of $2500 for our efforts!

Our group will be working alongside Compass Rose Events to make this a special day for Tenneco and to raise money for our group’s fundraising purpose (example: new band uniforms). Compass Rose Events works with hundreds of groups a year and over 94% of the groups can’t wait for this opportunity again.
The event managers on site will explain everything and guide our group. Most of this work will be physical and there will be some heavy or awkward equipment. The onsite event managers are trained in facilitating a safe and efficient environment for the volunteers.
Safety and professionalism are extremely important to Compass Rose Events and they successfully deliver events with volunteer groups regularly.

April Showers Recap:

Plenty of parents and families made the long drive to Dexter for Saturday's April Showers Relays. We're grateful for the support.  We didn't have the day we were hoping for, but continued to make progress as a team.  The weather was beautiful, our captains and leaders did a nice job, and many of our athletes performed well.

The following athletes medalled:

Pole Vault Relay - Fisher Blackmore, Sam Kinsey, Zack Wiltse.
High Jump Relay - Tyson Grant, Chad McCarthy, Jacob Toussaint
Distance Medley Relay - Anthony Wohlfeil, Nick Newcomer, Chad McCarthy, Noah Dawn.

Medals of honor - Donovan Isaac, Craig Latty

As mentioned time and again, we're having a great season. Unfortunately, it seems not everyone is on board with our goal of being the best team we can be.  As mentioned on the bus, we will have a team meeting to begin practice tomorrow.  Before arriving we ask that all team members revisit the questions I posed at the beginning of the season:

Does MHS Trojan Track & Field matter to me?
Do I care about my teammates?
Am I committed to excellence?
Can my coaches trust me?

Before we move forward with the rest of the season, we need everyone on the roster to answer "yes" to all of the above.

The roster for Tuesday's home meet against Bedford will not be posted until tomorrow evening, following our meeting and practice.

Speaking of our dual vs. Bedford, thanks to the following parents who have volunteered to help with the meet:

Update 4/4/16 3:15 PM -

Parents, we are sending picture envelopes home today.  Please check with your child if you intend to order prints.

Welcome back.

I hope you had a safe and relaxing break.  Here in Monroe, we had a small group get a large amount of work done.  For that, I am grateful.  I'm also grateful that our break is complete and for the opportunity to work hard together until the state finals.  In spite of many obstacles, we worked very hard and accomplished a great deal during the month of March.  I'm hopeful that we didn't lose fitness over break.  Workouts will now shift from general fitness to event specific training.  It's go time!!!

We have much to accomplish this week and need you to show up tomorrow with a positive attitude, ready to work hard.  We plan to get outside every day this week.  In addition to the planned workouts, we need to spend time this week teaching events and event specific skills.  We also need to spend time getting the track & field ready for next week's dual meet against Ann Arbor Skyline. Finally, we have a few administrative tasks to wrap up this week.  Please plan to stay until 5:30 PM all week. When we can, we will finish earlier.

Parents!!!

Speaking of our dual meet against Skyline, at this point we have only 3 parents signed up to volunteer.

We rely on parent volunteers to keep our home meets running smoothly. We need timers and field event judges for each home meet. The tasks are not difficult and someone from the coaching staff will provide complete instructions.

If you'd like to help, please complete our google form here:
